Perimeter Protection

The first line of security around a facility - be it then a utility, a power plant or an airport - is the protection of the compound's perimeter against intruders. A perimeter protection system has three functions: to prevent the intrusion, to detect an intruder and to create a response to an incident. In all of these, video surveillance plays an important role.

Cameras add to the deterrence of fences and barriers

The boundary demarcation around a protected facility is usually created with fences with gates protecting the openings in the perimeter. In most cases, electronic access control is installed at the gate.

Often it is integrated with camera surveillance so that all entrants can be recognized visually. The open interfaces in Mirasys Carbon VMS make this type of integration easy and efficient. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) allows a reliable and fast access control of entering and exiting vehicles.

Cameras at fences and gates add to the deterrent effect and detect intruders.

Cameras and sensors give an early warning of intrusion

Cameras are efficient detectors. Today's surveillance technologies like megapixel resolution, infrared illumination and thermal cameras allow the use of video surveillance day and night, in fog and in rain.

Optimally, the entire boundary of the facility is covered with cameras integrated with other sensors. Based on the information received from the sensors, the camera units zoom optically or digitally on the target and start tracking.

A fence keeps intruders away while surveillance cameras detect eventual perimeter violations.

Video Analytics helps in choosing the right response

Video Analytics integrated into Mirasys Carbon VMS analyzes the images and classifies the detected intruder as persons or vehicles. The system shows the position of the intruder on a map and resolves the number of detected objects. Together with data from other sensors, the security staff has a pretty good overview of the situation and can thus carry out the most suitable response actions.

Video Analytics help the operator to locate, classify, recognize and track an intruder.
